The work of Olivier Spitz, a post-doctoral fellow from 2020 to 2021 in the LTCI‘s Optical Telecommunications group (GTO), has been selected as one of the top contributions of the 2020-2021 period in the selective journal Advanced Photonics.

Advanced Photonics is an open access, international journal, with a strong impact factor, publishing innovative research in all areas of optics and photonics, including fundamental and applied research.

Published in October 2020, Olivier Spitz’s paper, written under the supervision of Frédéric Grillot, Professor at GTO, and in collaboration with other international researchers [*], describes the exhibition of extreme pulses in quantum cascade lasers. Extreme events in quantum cascade lasers would make it possible to envisage optical neurons 10,000 times faster than biological neurons. Industrial applications of fast dynamics include spectroscopy, optical countermeasures, neurophotonics and free-space optical communications.
