Called the « Top 2% » and based on bibliometric information contained in the Scopus database, in partnership with Elsevier, one of the largest publishers of scientific publications, this ranking established by Stanford University reviews the international influence of researchers in 22 fields and 174 sub-fields.
Updated in August/Sept. 2024, this ranking of excellence presents more than 210,000 researchers among more than 8 million active scientists in the world, i.e. approximately 2.5%, all disciplines combined.

The Stanford University rankings are based on around fourty indicators, including the number of publications, the number of times the distinguished researcher’s articles are cited in scientific journals, and the number of articles signed by the researcher as sole author or as co-author of a collective publication.
