ICE Seminar: Fibre-based lasers for Optical Coherent Tomography Applications

Sept. 10, 2 pm, by Guillaume HUYET, Institute of Physics in Nice (InPhyNi, CNRS), France

Abstract

Fibre-based lasers have a wide range of applications, including in the automotive and defense industries. In this talk, we will introduce a fibre-based long laser specifically designed for Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) applications. The first part of the presentation will cover swept-source OCT and the specific requirements of these lasers. We will then provide a detailed characterization of the laser’s properties, revealing complex dynamics that resemble the coherent structures observed in turbulence. This analysis will allow us to monitor the real-time coherent buildup of these sources and highlight the impact of various parameters, such as cavity dispersion and nonlinearities.

Guillaume Huyet is a Research Director at CNRS and has served as the Director of the Institute of Physics in Nice since 2017. Before this, he was a Group Director at the Tyndall National Institute in Cork, Ireland, and the Head of Department at the Cork Institute of Technology. His research interests focus on the physics of lasers, particularly the dynamics of semiconductor lasers.
