Michèle Wigger is awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant
18 December 2023”I’m delighted that the project proposal has been accepted. On the one hand, it is a great recognition of my previous scientific works, especially on new proof techniques in information theory. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my students and co-authors who have contributed to these works. On the other hand, the project funds will give me the opportunity to further develop these techniques and, more importantly, to use them to derive optimal performances of exciting and timely applications in the field of distributed sensing. For example, fiber optic sensing and quantum sensors are two applications I’m particularly enthusiastic to work on. In this project we will also derive optimal performances of integrated sensing and communication systems, a technique that will greatly help autonomous vehicles and industrial robots to further automate traffic and manufacturing sites”.
Michèle Wigger received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering, with distinction, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering both from ETH Zurich, Switzerland, in 2003 and 2008, respectively. Her Master and PhD Theses were both awarded an ETH Medal. In 2009, she was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California, San Diego, USA, before joining Télécom Paris, France, where she has been a full professor since 2018. She has held visiting professor appointments at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich, and the University of Zurich. Dr. Wigger has served on the Board of Governors of the IEEE Information Theory Society, and is currently a Distinguished Lecturer for this society. She is also an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory and a co-lead guest editor for the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Information Theory for the special issue on sensing. Funding accomplishments include an Emergences Grant from the city of Paris, a Disruptive-ICT grant from Huawei, a Collaborative Project Grant from the French Funding Agency ANR, and an ERC Starting Grant (2017-2022).
