Sara Zaminga, PhD student at Télécom Paris, France, is awarded the first place for the Best Student Paper Award in the annual conference of IEEE Photonics Society in Orlando, USA…

… for the paper: Free-Space Gigabit Data Transmission with a Directly Modulated Interband Cascade Laser Epitaxially Grown on Silicon.

This accomplishment is a powerful booster for her research in the field of mid-infrared free-space optical communication.
It is a clear indicator of the increasing interest of the scientific community in alternative technologies that in the future might impact to the development of a fully interconnected world.

Sara shares the podium with Saverio Pellegrini, PhD in Politecnico di Torino, Italy. She thanks the IEEE IPC Committee for the assigned award, and especially her supervisor Frédéric Grillot , professor at Télécom Paris, for being a pioneer in this field, and an inspirational model.
